Artificial Intelligence and How it is transforming our future
*
Artificial Intelligence, does this word amaze you?! When you first read the title, I am sure, you must be hit by the thought of robots or certain machinesor gadgets working intelligently and smartly by themselves to get things done on human command or according to a pre-decide set of rules and procedures. In general terms, Artificial Intelligence is the development of computer systems that are able to perform tasks that usually require human involvement and resembles human actions as well. These tasks could be anything, for instance playing a music track, getting direction to a particular location or reading news headlines on a voice command. With the growing inclusion of AI in products and services which are somewhere related to consumers, such as enhanced adoption of AI technology by Educational institutes, the area where India still lacks behind most of the major economies and incorporation of Artificial Intelligence might help our kids get better understanding of the concepts, or mobile manufacturers rolling out next generation  “Foldable” phones or “Flip or Pop-Up” camera phones, is what we can call the terrific“state-of-art” technology. AI is enabling each one of us to get that “Tech-Savvy” personality out of ourselves. How amazing it would be if AI could help us fill up the empty water bottles at home or inform us to take our “Milton” lunch box with us while coming back from office.

I still remember the time when we used to ask for directions while going to our relatives place, or find our phones that we lost somewhere in our home or look for contact number that was written in “Yellow Page”. Changing a channel on radio, adjusting the AC temperature, opening  or closing the sunroof or updating ourselves with what’s up with the vehicle and what does it need and predicting about how much it gonna run on remaining fuel, has never been this easy to know. From voice-searching about best dine-out restaurants, upcoming movies, latest songs, places to visit with family and any other recommendation to search engine queries, AI and, more specifically, deep learning (which basically learns the pattern how we use our phones, what we search about more often, what type of songs we love to listen and stuffs alike) are powering a range of applications that have recalibrated consumer expectations for the digital lifestyle, thereby making this technology a little more compelling for us.Products ranging from mobile phones to Cars, smart watches to Smart Homes (for all those who are unaware about inclusion of this technological advancement, Smart Homes are the homes that work on voice command and have complete access to internet. Functions like lighting, heating, electrical functions can be controlled using Smartphones or computer systems), fitness bands to smart speakers, we are surrounded by this revolutionary innovation in the field of technology.I still remember the time when we used to ask for directions while going to our relatives place, or find our phones that we lost somewhere in our home or look for contact number that was written in “Yellow Page”.

Major tech giants such as Google, Microsoft, Apple, Facebook, Samsung, Amazon are working closely on AI and bringing gadgets such as Smart-speakers (such as Amazon Echo, Google Home), smartwatches (Samsung Gears, Apple smartwatch Series), voice assistance powered search engines (Google assistance, Microsoft’s Cortana, Samsung’s Bixby) for consumers so as to make their routine life a little easy and to make them experience the power of AI and what all it is capable of doing in terms of human applications.

If we talk about automobile manufacturers, recent advancements made by firms such as Kia and MG Motors which are about to hit the Indian markets in the summer, will be providing a stiff competition in the field of AI. Captivating features such as Road Safety Assistance, Driver Assistance, Predictions regarding maintenance of vehicle, Voice command control, Parking & Brake assistance, are making it easier, safer and convenient for us to go on a long drive where most of the things would be done by the car itself. How relaxing is that, Ain’tit ?

However, there is a tough road ahead for Indian drivers who have been waiting for long for Autonomous Vehicles that run by themselves, or Electro-Mobility, due to presence of stringent government regulations and policies. We’re already seeing the beginnings of self-driving cars, though the vehicles are currently required to have a driver present at the wheel for safety. Despite these exciting developments, the technology isn’t perfect yet, and it will take a while for public acceptance to bring automated cars into widespread use.

With the evolution of Artificial Intelligence in the recent years and changing preferences of consumers to shop online more often rather than offline markets, a number of ecommerce companies are incorporating AI features on their websites. AI and machine learning algorithms can predict the behaviour of the buyer from its past searches, likings, frequently bought products which is the reason E-commerce websites are now able to recommend the products that user is highly interested in. This, in turn, is improving the users’ experience as the users no longer have to spend hours searching the product. Websites such as Amazon, Flipkart, are also providing online customer care assistance, which is basically an AI driven Chat-bot, which is designed to communicate with human users through the internet so as to answer consumers’ queries, based upon machine learning.

However, as we know, each coin has two sides. Likewise, there are certain enchanting advantages of having AI in most of the products in our daily life and apparently, there are certain disadvantages as well. Since AI can only do the work that it is programmed to do, it cannot think out-of-box. It cannot act any different outside of whatever algorithm or programming stored in its internal circuits. AI takes into consideration the machine learning, it learns the procedure and thus can perform the same action. Therefore, when it comes to creative minds, AI can never be able to beat human minds, since it is a gift of that only.

Moreover, growing incorporation of AI in various organizations, is also impacting the employment of workers as AI helps in cost cutting by impersonating human actions. There is no doubt that machines work more efficiently than humans do, but they lack what humans are master of, Compassion and Sympathy. Machines cannot develop a bond with fellow humans. Lastly, we are getting highly dependent on AI driven products. If we stop using our natural thinking abilities, those will start decreasing gradually. If we continue with the heavy application of AI, we might lose our mental capacities in future.
